BALOO for Cub Scout Leaders - Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) introduces leaders and parents to the skills needed to plan and conduct pack outdoor activities, particularly pack camping.
Participants who complete this training course will:
- Understand the focus of the Cub Scout level of the BSA outdoor program.
- Gain the skills needed to plan and carry out a successful Cub Scout-level overnight activity.
- Learn more about the resources available from the BSA for carrying out this activity.
This training is required for any adult who is in charge of planning a pack campout.
Climb on Safely is the Boy Scouts of America's recommended procedure for organizing BSA climbing/rappelling activities at a natural site or a specifically designed facility such as a climbing wall or tower.
COPE Course at Camp McClintock - Learn how you can enhance your troop’s program by taking advantage of the COPE (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience) course at Camp McClintock.
Eagle Boards of Review - This session will cover what is needed to get an Eagle project ready for initial approval. You will hear from the people who lead these reviews with the Scouts what they are expecting. The process for scheduling and preparing for the Eagle Board of Review will also be covered in this session. Be prepared by attending this and letting Scouts know what is needed before going to the approval meeting.Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Adult Leader Training But Were Afraid to Ask - Trained leaders provide a quality, fun-filled program for crews. When leaders understand Boy Scouting, they are more effective in their roles. Learn about training opportunities and the answer to the question "What training do I need and when?"
High Adventure - Get out of the house and into the excitement offered at one of the BSA's High Adventure Bases! You've got three choices: a unique aquatic quest at the Florida Sea Base; a canoeing or winter camping challenge at the Northern Tier; or a wild west backpacking expedition at the Philmont Scout Ranch. Come hear about these three BSA High Adventure facilities and other opportunities for high adventure outings.
How to Grow Your Troop - Ideas and idea exchange for marketing the good things your unit is already doing, planning recruiting tactics, and connecting the dots between Cub, Boy and Venture Scouts.
How to Keep Older Scouts - This session is a discussion of what are ways to retain older Scouts in Scouting and involved in the Troop. A number of areas will be covered that could help in older Scout retention. A class discussion will occur on retention issues in the various troops in the class, and what has worked and not worked for these troops as well.
New Leader Essentials - As the first section of Basic Leader Training, New Leader Essentials is a 90-minute introductory session that highlights the values, aims, history, funding, and methods of Scouting and provides new leaders with a look at the resources available to them.
OA Information - Find out the function and structure of the Order of the Arrow, how elections work, what all the terms mean (like Conclave, NOAC, WWW), and who or what is a Chief. Learn about the adult role and the role of the Troop Rep in OA and explore ways to get your troop more involved.
Self-Directed Online Training - Take one or more of the following training courses online: Fast Start, Youth Protection, Safe Swim Defense, and Safety AfloatSupporting Merit Badge Classes & Merit Badge Counseling - Merit Badge Counselors are the key to success in the merit badge plan. They offer their time, experience, and knowledge to help guide Scouts in one or more of the merit badge subjects. This session will cover how to become a merit badge counselor, the merit badge counselor’s responsibilities, and how a unit can effectively use merit badge counselors.
Trek Safely - Fun and safe overnight trekking activities require compliance with Trek Safely by both adult and youth leaders. The session will cover the overall Trek on Safely procedure.
Troop Program Planning - This session will help leaders create a troop program that will leave scouts wanting more.
