American Business

Requirement 2a

Do the following visit a bank. Talk with one of the officers or staff. Chart the organization of the bank. Show its relationship with other banks, business and industry

Requirement 4

Do ONE of the following:

  1. Draw an organizational chart of a typical central labor council.
  2. Describe automation, union shop, open shop, collective-bargaining agreements, shop steward, business agent, and union counselor.
  3. Explain the part played by four federal or state agencies in labor relations.

Architecture

Requirement 5

Measure your bedroom. Make an accurately scaled drawing of the floor plan indicating walls, doors, windows, and furniture. Neatly label your drawing, including your name and the date. (Drawing scale: 1/4 inch = 1 foot); Bring the drawing to class.


Citizenship in the Nation

Requirement 3

Watch the national evening news five days in a row OR read the front page of a major daily newspaper five days in a row. Discuss the national issues you learned about with your counselor. Choose one of the issues and explain how it affects you and your family.


Coin Collecting

Requirement 7b

Collect and show your counselor five different quarters you have acquired from circulation.

Requirement 8

Collect from circulation a set of currently circulating U.S. coins. Include one coin of each denomination (cent, nickel, dime, quarter, half-dollar, Susan B. Anthony or Sacagawea dollar). For each coin, locate the mint marks, if any, and the designer’s initials, if any.


Communications

Requirement 4

Interview someone you know fairly well, like or respect.  Listen actively to learn as much as possible about the person.  Prepare in advance of class an introduction of the person as if they were a guest speaker.  Show how you would call to invite the person to speak.  The introduction and invitation should be in writing.  Bring to class.


Electricity

Requirement 8

On a floor plan of a room in your home, make a wiring diagram of the lights, switches, and outlets. Show which fuse or circuit breaker protects each one. Bring to class.


Emergency Preparedness

Requirement 9b

Review or develop a plan of escape for your family in case of fire in your home.  Bring to class.

First Aid

Requirement 2b

Prepare a first aid kit for your home.  Bring to class.


Music

Requirement 1

Sing or play a simple song or hymn chosen by your counselor using good technique, phrasing, tone, rhythm, and dynamics. Read all the signs and terms of the score. Bring to class.


Painting

Wear t-shirt under Scout shirt and pants that may get paint on them


Personal Fitness

Requirement 1a

Have your health-care provider give you a physical examination, using the Scout medical examination form.


Public Speaking

Requirement 2

Prepare a three- to five-minute talk on a topic of your choice that incorporates body language and visual aids. This will be presented in class.


Skating

Bring roller or in-line skates. Ice skating will not covered.  Pads are optional.


Swimming

Must have documentation of passing swim test prior. Bring loose fitting jeans, t-shirt, and swim trunks, towel, etc.
