ABOUT OUR COUNCIL
In 1907, just ten years after Bartlesville was founded and the same year Oklahoma became a state, the Boy Scout program began in England with an experimental camp on Brownsea Island, off the southern coast. In 1909, less than two years after the founding by Bawden-Powell, a priest who was familiar with the Scouting program came to Pawhuska, Oklahoma and founded the first documented fully uniformed Boy Scout troop in America. Cherokee Area Council continues the Scouting traditions formed through more than 100 years of Scouting in the area.
